On Friday November 11, past member and World War II veteran Hilton Conley was recognized as part of the “Flight of Honor” at the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. Early that morning Mr. Conley was flown from his home in North Carolina to Washington D.C. where he joined several other veterans for a day of remembrance in the nation’s capital. Mr. Conley was even more surprised when he pulled up to the memorial and there waiting for him was a crew of Accokeek Volunteers onboard Tower 24. Deputy Chief Timmy Donais, Past Chief Chris Maggi, Treasurer Darlene Grimsley and Junior Firefighters Brendan Donais and Christopher Maggi were on hand to join him as his escorts for the day.
Mr. Conley is a life member with over 50 years of service with the Accokeek Volunteer Fire Department. During his years of service he worked as the department’s treasurer and was inducted into the PG County Hall of Fame. It is a great honor for the members of the Accokeek Volunteer Fire Department to pay our respects to “The Greatest Generation”.
Thank you Mr. Conley and all of the veterans of World War II.
